Bossaso (WDN)–Puntland security forces, in coordination with international partners, launched a significant military operation last night targeting Daesh militants entrenched in the Al-Miskaad mountain range in the eastern region. According to reliable sources, the operation included a precision airstrike that resulted in the elimination of at least 15 Daesh fighters, including several high-ranking foreign operatives.

In an official statement, the Puntland Operations Command for the Elimination of Terrorism confirmed the success of the operation.

“Daesh elements hiding in Togjacel were struck from both air and ground forces. Approximately 15 militants, including high ranking foreign operatives, were killed in last night’s coordinated offensive,”the statement said.

Coordinated Ground Assault  

Following the airstrike, Puntland forces launched a four-pronged ground assault early this morning, advancing towards key Daesh positions in the Togjacel area. Heavy fighting has been reported, with significant casualties on ISIS side.

Puntland authorities emphasized that the objective of the operation is to eliminate Daesh influence in the region and prevent its fighters from expanding beyond their mountainous hideouts.

The situation remains volatile, with ongoing clashes and additional air support provided by Puntland’s international partners.

Local sources confirmed that the recent fighting has resulted in numerous casualties, with several Puntland soldiers killed and others injured. The operation is expected to continue until Daesh forces are fully neutralized.
