In Loving Memory of Mohamed Osman Jawari 1945 – 2024

It is with a profound sadness that we announce the recent passing of Mohamed Osman Jawari, also known as Jawari, a respected Somali politician, lawyer, and former Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, who left us on 28 June 2024. Born in 1945 in the popular town of Afgoye, Jawari’s life was marked by unwavering dedication to his country and its people.

Jawari was a man of immense wisdom, integrity, and humility, qualities that he brought to every role he undertook. His educational journey began in Somalia, where he developed a passion for law and governance, eventually leading him to pursue higher education in Somalia, Faculty of Law. Upon his return from Norway right after the civil, Jawari embarked on a career in public service that would span several decades, making an indelible mark on Somali politics.

Although Jawari worked his way up progressively in the public services of Somalia and held positions such as Director General, Deputy Minister and Minister under the military government of Somalia, but his most notable role was as Speaker of the Federal Parliament, a position he held from 2012 to 2016 and again from 2017 to 2019.

During his tenure in 2012 as advisor to the Independent Federal Constitution Committee (IFCC), Jawari was instrumental in the drafting and implementation of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution, a cornerstone in the nation’s efforts to rebuild after years of civil conflict. His leadership was characterized by his ability to navigate complex political landscapes with grace and determination, always prioritizing the welfare of the Somali people.

Jawari’s commitment to peace and stability extended beyond his official duties. He was a tireless advocate for dialogue and reconciliation, believing firmly that Somalia’s future lay in unity and mutual understanding. His contributions to the peace process earned him respect and admiration both within Somalia and in the international community.

Beyond his public life, Mohamed Osman Jawari was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his family deeply and found joy in the simple moments spent with loved ones. His wisdom, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to a true statesman, we also celebrate a life well-lived. Mohamed Osman Jawari leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and hope for a brighter future for Somalia. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched and in the annals of Somali history.
