Ankara, Turkey, (WAPA) – Turkish Airlines has launched yesterday its direct flights between Istanbul and Zanzibar. Following this addition, the airline will now be flying to 293 destinations worldwide; 50 of which are in Africa. These include the east African city hubs of Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Nairobi, Mogadishu, Djibouti, Asmara, Addis Ababa, Kigali, Entebbe and Zanzibar.

Beginning from yesterday Zanzibar flights will be operated 3 times per week as Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays in both directions.

It began its journey in 1933 with just 5 airplanes. Over the years that its fleet has now grown to number over 200 aircraft.
The new vision for THY adopted in 2003 is still in progress, and despite the globally destructive effects of recent economic difficulties, this decade of investment is now yielding positive results, in terms of both passenger numbers and profitability, as well as the establishment and continued expansion of the route network. THY is still growing.

Since April 1st, 2008, THY has been a member of the airline group, Star Alliance.
