Qatar Charity, Save the Dream sign cooperation agreement

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the “Save the Dream” organisation to launch the “Empowering Youth and Saving the Dreams of Somali Children through Sports” project.

The project comes under “Sports for Development and Peace”, a joint initiative between Qatar Charity and Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

It seeks to empower a group of young people to become “agents of change” and train other young people to contribute to the development of approaches to promoting development and peace through sport.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Qatar Charity by Deputy CEO of Programs and International Development Sector Nawaf Al Hammadi, and on behalf of Save the Dream by its CEO Massimiliano Montanari, in the presence of QFFD Deputy Director-General for Planning Ali bin Abdullah Al Dabbagh.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Qatar Charity by Assistant CEO for International Programs and Development Nawaf Al Hammadi, and on behalf of Save the Dream by its CEO Massimiliano Montanari, in the presence of QFFD Deputy Director General for Development Ali Al-Dabbagh.

Commenting on the agreement, Al Hammadi said: “This agreement aims to promote trust and peace through sport, especially as it is a means of development and can have a major role in promoting development in conflict areas, and we are proud of it. It is the second partnership between Qatar Charity and Saves the Dream Organization, and we hope that this will strengthen Agreement on Peace and Development in Somalia.”

For his part, Save the Dream CEO Massimiliano Montanari said: “Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world, out of 10 people, 7 suffer from poverty. At the same time 70 percent of its population is under the age of thirty, and we are proud, at Save the Dream, to start with Qatar Charity a project aimed at empowering these youth through sport and the power of its values.”

Ali Al Dabbagh, QFFD Deputy Director General, said: “Today we are witnessing the signing ceremony of one of the most important projects centered on the youth of Somalia, which falls within the framework of our Sports for Development and Peace initiative under the title of restoring hope and opportunities through sport.”

The project comes within the ongoing cooperation with Save the Dream, which included the organization of a number of projects and events such as a high-level joint event aimed at empowering young internally displaced people (IDPs) in Al Fasher, the capital city of North Darfur; “Darfur Dreams”, a joint initiative of Qatar Charity, QFFD and Save the Dream; and a side event held at the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York on “The Role of Sport in Safeguarding and Empowering Refugees and IDPs”.

The new initiative also aims to promote development principles through sport as an effective tool in humanitarian and development, and peacebuilding programs through several activities. It will also focus on the positive aspect of the sport in building societies and empowering children and youth, in addition to using sport as an important enabler to achieve the United Nations’ sustainable development goals and promoting peace and coexistence.
