Addis Ababa, The government of Ethiopia has repatriated hundreds of undocumented citizens from Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
During the last weekend, about 850 Ethiopian immigrants returned to their homes, 445 were returned on Friday and the remaining 405 arrived in the country on Sunday, the statement states.
According to the official letter, the immigrants crossed the Red Sea to reach that country in western Asia, where they were living without a residence permit.
The Ethiopian consulate in Jeddah coordinated the orderly and safe return of these people, along with the Riyadh government and the International Organization for Migration, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The document also stressed that the government will continue working to help and repatriate the Ethiopian citizens living illegally in Saudi Arabia and other nations.
