Egypt President Sisi discusses with Somali counterpart restoring stability to the country

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Thursday in a phone call with his Somali counterpart President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud the latest developments and steps taken to restore stability and security in Somalia, the Egyptian presidency announced.

n the phone call, El-Sisi discussed the different challenges facing the Horn of Africa country, chief among which is terrorism, the presidency said.

According to the presidency, President Mohamud expressed how his country is keen to boost consultation and coordination with Egypt on different regional issues of common interest.

He also expressed interest in boosting bilateral cooperation on different levels, praising the historical relations between the two country’s as well as Egypt’s historical support to Somalia.

From his side, El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its historical relations with Somalia, as well as his keenness for a strong and stable unified Somalia that would best serve the interests of its people.

El-Sisi also expressed a desire to support Somalia face different challenges, especially radicalism and terrorism.

The Egyptian president stated during the phone call that Egypt is ready to continue supporting Somalia’s efforts to build and sustain its state institutions. Egypt is also ready to boost bilateral cooperation, especially on the commercial and economic level, as well as to train Somalia technical cadres, El-Sisi added.

In July, the Somali president visited Cairo and met with El-Sisi, where they agreed to work together to enforce security and stability in the region, especially in the Red Sea, as well as to boost economic relations between the two countries.
