Bosaso, (WDN)- The Mayor of the port city of Bosaso, the commercial hub of Puntland Abdifitah Mohamed Osman, known widely as “Shanle,” has stepped down after facing a strong no-confidence motion from the city’s district council.
The resignation comes amid mounting criticism over what council members described as a complete failure in governance and service delivery. A total of 26 council members, including Deputy Mayor Bashir Farah Said, backed the motion, accusing Shanle of incompetence and neglecting his duties.
Sources confirmed that Shanle planned to formally announce his resignation during the opening session of the council’s Saturday meeting to avoid an official vote of removal.
Bosaso, one of Puntland’s most strategic and economically vital cities, has suffered from stalled development and deteriorating public services under Shanle’s leadership, according to critics within the council.
His departure is expected to pave the way for a leadership reshuffle and renewed focus on reviving basic services, addressing public grievances, and restoring trust in municipal governance.
