Diplomatic Tensions Escalate as Somalia Orders Ethiopian Ambassador to Depart

In an unprecedented escalation of diplomatic tensions, the Federal Republic of Somalia has taken decisive action against the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for what it describes as violations of its sovereignty and meddling in internal affairs.

Immediate Expulsion Ordered The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia has declared that the Ethiopian Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Muqtar Mohamed Waare, is to depart the country within a 72-hour timeframe. This directive follows a resolution by Somalia’s Council of Ministers and is a direct response to Ethiopia’s recent actions.

Consulate Closures Furthering its diplomatic measures, Somalia has mandated the closure of Ethiopian consulates located in Hargeisa and Garowe, setting a deadline of seven days for these actions to be completed.

Ambassador Recalled In addition to the expulsion and closures, Somalia has summoned its own Ambassador in Addis Ababa back to Mogadishu for comprehensive consultations.

A Stand for Sovereignty The Ministry’s official statement emphasized that these measures are crucial to safeguarding Somalia’s independence, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The move marks a clear stance against foreign interference and underscores the growing rift between the two nations.

The situation remains fluid, and further developments are anticipated as both countries navigate this diplomatic impasse.
