Mogadishu (WDN)- An attack by Al Shabaab militants on the Beach View Hotel, located on Lido Beach in Mogadishu, has resulted in multiple deaths and serious injuries.

In a press conference held in Mogadishu, Somali Police Force spokesperson Abdifatah Adam Hassan provided details of the attack, which took place last night, August, 2, 2024. The incident occurred on a Friday night when many people were gathered at the Beach View Hotel and other nearby establishments on Lido Beach.

The spokesman said that an Al Shabab militia suicide bomber has detonated himself with explosives where 32 civilians died and 63 were injured. The spokesperson noted that the security forces shot and killed 3 Al Shabaab militants who entered the hotel.

The spokesman also said that they arrested a car carrying explosives and the driver of the car. Abdifatah Adan Hassan continued to say that one soldier was killed by the security forces and another was injured during the operation.

Al Shabaab’s recurring attacks in Mogadishu have become a persistent threat to the city’s security and stability. The militant group frequently targets hotels, public spaces and government buildings in an effort to destabilize the country and instill fear among the population. These assaults often involve suicide bombings, armed assaults, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), resulting in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction.
