NEW DELHI: Customs has seized 600kg of ban on narcotic “dry khat” which was smuggled from Ethiopia and arrested three people, including two Somali refugees.
The bracket was made at the IGI Airport terminal. The consignment was valued at about Rs 16 crore on the market. There were three consignments of “dry khat” which were incorrectly declared as green tea for customs clearance.
Samples were taken from the consignment, which was subsequently tested positive for “dry khat”. Subsequently, a freight forwarder was arrested with the department, who seemed to be the main facilitator for the approval of said goods.
When he was questioned, the institution learned that two foreigners were also involved.
