Unity Once Again- Markale Midnimo

Press Release

Not in our name

This is in regard to the horror that took place in Laascaanood, Somalia, where 800 plus Somali citizens were rounded up on October 2, 2021 and forced out of their homes by Somaliland authority, then discarded.

Somaliland authority should be condemned for it’s egregious, citizen abuse by the world body (African Union, the European Union, the Arab League, and the United Nations).   Ushering in an unprecedented discriminatory policy by collecting Somali citizens from their own homes in their motherland and branding them foreigner terrorists is tragic.  It is Somaliland that failed to protect Laascaanood citizens from terrorists, thus, it’s unacceptable that they had to scapegoat innocent Somali women, elderly and poor children.

Hounding and hauling women, children, sick and elderly and forcing them out of their homes, is a crime against humanity and Islamic principles as well as Somalis’ cultural code of ethics.

This malicious, mindless act is not only atrocious and harmful to the shared Somali identity but is an indelible blot on the northern citizens and their patriotic senses.

Therefore, we ask the international body to sanction Somaliland’s President Muse Bihi Abdi; the Minister of Home Affairs, Mohamed Kahin; the Military commander, Noh Tani; the Chief of Police Mohamed Adan Sanqadhi; and any other lieutenant who executed this injurious, forced displacement.

We also ask collective Somali citizens with conscience, specifically those from the north to reject this harmful forced displacement of their Somali brothers and sisters.

Finally, we (Unity Once Again) an advocacy organization from the north, say not in our names.  We apologize to our brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers who incurred this unfortunate displacement

In conclusion, we share your pain and burden of your grief.
