The story behind writing this article is to attempt awakening many of the over three million Somali Diaspora communities around the world through two masterpiece songs composed and aired by Somali artists, calling them to go back for the reconstruction of their gorgeous homeland. I hope the contents in these masterpieces will provoke the thoughts of Diaspora members who believe that their new found lands serve as permanent replacements of their home.

The first song Allow Dalka Noo Hagaaji (Allah Bless Our Homeland) was composed in London by the famous and popular Somali female composer, singer and actress, Marian Mursal, in 2006, and was sang by a choir of artists to welcome the late Somali Transitional President, Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, visiting the UK – the first visit a Somali President had the honor of being received by hundreds of his fellow country compatriots since the collapse of the state in 1991. In this song, Marian Mursal pleads with the new President with eager enthusiasm to find a better future, yet she places a dossier of complaints and dreams on his lap about conditions of Somali refugee communities hosted in foreign lands.

The second song Dhulka Hooyaday (My Motherland) was created by the well-known poet, playwright and actor, Abdulkadir Abdi “Shube”, who resisted from seeking sanctuary from overseas during the years of the civil strife in Somalia. In his song My Motherland, composed in 2013 after the successful formation of the first Federal Government of Somalia, Shube depicts Somalia as a self-sufficient nation full of all that life demands and waves back to those distressed Diaspora communities scattered around the four corners of the world to return home.
