Why Am I Silent!

Why Am I Silent!

By Brain Rushat Waeys

I am silent because I feel betrayed by my country and my region, my constitutional rights have been robbed, my confidence dashed, my brain traumatized, my feelings ashamed, my education invalidated, my pride enslaved and my property confiscated. I am sure many people will understand me particularly the victims of the new insanity in Somali Region. However, its beneficiaries will tend not understand me and possibly acknowledge but with a head scratch.

I hate the propaganda machines, TV channels, Radio stations, social media and political speeches alike. I hate when words such as democracy, peace, justice, equality, security, sustainable development and equity when it is often used to express illusive success, off context and when the reality is absolutely opposite and used only to deceive the ignorant masses, get applause of the beneficiaries of the dirty monies and put lullaby melodies to the curiosity of the enlightened brains and interested aliens.

When corruption is rampant, dictatorship appreciated, criminal acts of institutions justified, death or detention is at everyone gate, injustice is a tool to silence the conscious of the enlightened, insecurity is a means to rob public funds, development is a superficial talk for the record, nepotism, clan favoritism and bribery is the means to manage public resources, hire and fire human resources, backwardness and inequality is the rapidly growing tumor of the masses and questioning my agony is like digging my graveyard, then why should I be not silent?

I do not like to pretend to be an expert on all these issues but would like to just express my general frustration about the one family rule, one man justice, the watchful by standing of the Federal Government and misuse of these words in order to trigger the awakening bell of the sleeping conscious of all positive thinkers, well-wishers and all those who would like to see a better world for the homeless, helpless and hopeless people of the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia.

I would like the leadership of the federal government to rescue the hope of the people of Somali Region before it’s too late. Otherwise none-partisan behavior of the federal government will confirm the old misconception that “Ethiopia Needs the Land but not the People” and will never heal the bleeding wounds of the people of Somali Region.
