Parliament urges to guarantee human rights in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Ethiopian House of People´s Representatives called on the country’s Human Rights Commission (HRC) to increase efforts carried out so far, in order to fully comply with its liabilities.
Ethiopia and nationals really need HRC´s tireless work, since guaranteeing the rights of each person is pivotal to achieve our goals of comprehensive growth, according to the Parliament.

¨More than a duty, it is an obligation with all Ethiopian people,¨ said a text issued by the Parliament in response to the report submitted by the HRC President, Daniel Bekele, about his hard work during last six months.

¨We are not fulfilling our mission adequately due, above all, to political reasons, and that is why we are carrying out an institutional reform,¨ Bekele stated.

¨However,¨ the Bekele said, ¨we have conducted an evaluation to discover some gaps in existing legal frameworks and amend them, and we also work to correct the 1920 human rights law.¨
