LATE GOAL GIVES DJIBOUTI HOPE

A 90th minute equaliser secured a 1-1 draw for Djibouti in their 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) first-leg qualifier against Burundi on Sunday evening.

Djibouti went into the game still recovering from their 8-1 defeat to Tunisia in their opening group qualifier for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and they found themselves trailing the Swallows at the break.

Fresh off a defeat themselves, Burundi were eager to make bounce back with a win against a wounded Djibouti outfit.

The visitors looked well on course to secure the vital away victory, but Djibouti never gave up – leveling matters in the final minute of regulation time to give them some hope of securing a surprise result in Bujumbura next month.

The return leg of this preliminary round clash will be played in Burundi on the weekend of 3-5 July. The winners will face Ethiopia or Kenya in the final qualifying playoff round in October this year.
