Nairobi (WDN) – Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) has reportedly leveled a series of serious allegations against Somalia’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, following his recent denial of entry into Kenya and return to Somalia.
According to reports circulating in Kenyan media, the ATPU described the senior Somali official as a potential security risk and alleged that he was linked to activities that threatened stability along the Kenya–Somalia border.
The reported allegations claim that Jibril was involved in incidents that undermined security in border communities and accuse him of facilitating the movement of armed groups into the region. Kenyan authorities further allege that those groups contributed to instability in areas bordering the two countries.
The reports also claim that Kenyan investigators questioned the legitimacy of the Deputy Prime Minister’s acquisition of a Kenyan passport, alleging that it may have been obtained unlawfully.
In addition, the Kenyan security agency is reported to have linked Jibril to political violence in Baidoa, alleging that the unrest resulted in civilian deaths and widespread displacement. The reports further claim that Kenyan political figures attempted to mediate the crisis but were unsuccessful.
Kenyan officials reportedly argue that the alleged activities had direct implications for Kenya’s national security, prompting authorities to prevent the Somali official from entering the country.
The reported move marks a significant diplomatic development, given Jibril’s position as one of Somalia’s highest-ranking government officials, and could further strain relations between Nairobi and Mogadishu if the allegations are pursued through official channels.
As of publication, the Federal Government of Somalia had not issued an official statement responding either to Kenya’s reported decision to deny the Deputy Prime Minister entry or to the allegations attributed to Kenyan security authorities.
The allegations remain unproven, and no public evidence has been presented by Kenyan authorities to substantiate the claims. Likewise, Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi has not publicly responded to the reported accusations.
