I’m humbled, Duale tells Ruto after appointment as Defence CS

Garissa Town MP Aden Duale has expressed his gratitude to President William Ruto for appointing him Defence Cabinet secretary.

The legislator was named among 22 proposed ministerial nominees by President William Ruto who saw him fit to lead in that office.

“Thank you my boss, my Friend and my President William Ruto. This afternoon I received the news of my nomination as the next cabinet secretary for Defence with much honour, joy and humility,” he said.

“I am indeed humbled for the opportunity to serve the people of Kenya as cabinet secretary for Defence. I thank you my President for your belief in my leadership and for bestowing me with this noble opportunity.”

The former majority leader recounted how he started his journey with the President.

“Indeed, our paths with you Your Excellency met in 2007 and since then our stars have shone brighter and brighter,” he said.

Duale said Ruto has helped him so much in his political journey and cannot thank him enough.

“We began our journey of serving the people together in 2007 and through you, my President, I was appointed to serve as Minister for Livestock in the Grand Coalition Government,” he said.

Duale has been a staunch supporter and ally of the President over the years, an attribute that saw him appointed as the first Majority Leader of the Jubilee administration in 2013.

This was after Ruto’s URP Party joined hands with former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA to form the new government.

“What an honour that not once but thrice now you have expressed faith in me by appointing me to serve with you the people of Kenya. I have no words to express my gratitude for the nomination but allow me to say thank you immensely,” Duale said.

He said he looks forward to serving the people of Kenya under Ruto’s leadership and guidance.

“I shall ensure that Kenya’s territorial sovereignty is upheld at all times,” Duale said.

Duale, like all the other cabinet nominees, will have to be vetted by Parliament before being sworn in.

If approved by MPs, this will occasion a by-election in Garissa Township since the Constitution does not allow elected leaders to hold cabinet posts.

Duale said he will purpose to serve the country in the best way he knows.

“In the words of Abraham Lincoln the 16th President of the United States who once said that “Whatever you are, be a good one”.

“I undertake to be a good one indeed and uphold the Constitution. This I owe it to you, our People and God,” Duale said.
