A gang of Somali drug dealers have been jailed after they were arrested in a dawn raid by police who used a chainsaw to slice open the front door.

Dramatic footage showed the moment officers wearing crash helmets and all-black uniforms burst through the door of the house in a quiet residential estate.

Three men, Kamal Liban, 19, Abdlmahad Adow and Abdirahim Said, both 20, were arrested following the raid which took place in Worcester at 6.30am on April 7.

On Tuesday the gang were jailed for a total of 11 years at Worcester Crown Court after they admitted conspiracy to supply crack cocaine.

Liban, from Leicester, was sentenced to three years and four months while Adow and Said, both from London, were each jailed for four years.

Speaking after the case, Detective Inspector Stu Murphy, of Proactive CID at West Mercia Police, said: ‘We’re happy with the sentences and the defendants offered early guilty pleas to the charges.

‘People wishing to come and deal drugs from the bigger towns and cities may think Worcestershire is a soft touch.

‘Let me reassure them that we will act on the concerns of the local community and we will be coming through your door.’

The gang were caught following raids at two houses in Ronkswood, Worcester which saw a total of seven people arrested.

In total 18 officers were involved in the warrants which were part of Operation Lyra.

Crack cocaine and £2,000 in cash was seized during the warrants which earned high praise from residents in the block of flats where the dealing was happening.

A fourth dealer who was a youth at the time of the raids will be sentenced on Thursday.
