CAIRO, (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Sunday reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support to the Federal Government of Somalia and its efforts to uproot terrorism and achieve security and stability.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call he received from his Somalian counterpart Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed on Sunday.
The two sides discussed the distinguished strategic relations between Egypt and Somalia, shared interest in advancement of bilateral relations at the political, economic and trade levels for the benefit of the two sisterly nations.
They tackled prospects of leveraging momentum that has been witnessed by Egyptian-Somalian relations recently alongside following up on the outcomes of the three summits that took place in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, between the heads of state of Egypt, Somalia and Eritrea in October 10, 2024.
Abdelatty and Fiqi agreed to continue joint coordination and prepare for a trilateral ministerial meeting between the foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia and Eritrea, in line with directives of the political leaderships of the three countries towards supporting coordination and consultation on regional issues of common interest.
Meanwhile, the Somali foreign minister briefed Abdelatty on the outcomes of the recent tripartite Ankara summit between Somalia, Turkey and Ethiopia, with Fiqi affirming Somali commitment to protecting its sovereignty and the unity and territorial integrity.
