ADDIS ABABA,  — The Ethiopian Agriculture Investment Land Administration Agency says it has provided more than 2.3 million hectares of land for investors in the agricultural sector in Ethiopia in the current fiscal year.

At a session to evaluate the agency’s performance over the past nine months with stakeholders drawn from seven regional states, federal and investment bodies and investors here Tuesday, its Director-General, Aberra Mulat, said the government had distributed most of the 3.6 million hectares of land allocated by the government for investors.

Out of the land provided for the period under review, however, only 30 per cent was being cultivated, he said, adding that the performance was low.

Good governance, land grabbing, lack of infrastructure, shortage of chemical and agricultural inputs as well as lack of finance were the main causes of the low performance, the director-general said.

Efforts have been exerted to resolve these challenges with stakeholders and investors, according to him.
