DUBAI: The Dubai Police ended the suffering of a Somali girl who was arrested at the Dubai International Airport. The girl attempted to travel to the UK using a fake passport, seeking protection. The police, in cooperation with the Somali consulate, issued formal identity documents. The police also bought the girl a travel ticket to her home country.
According to Brigadier Saeed Hamad Mohammed Bin Sulaiman, Director of Rashidiya police station, the airport security transferred the mother and her daughter to Al Rashidiya police station.
Bin Sulaiman said that the Dubai Police tried to put the girl temporarily in the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC), but she was attached to her mother. He added, “We tried another option, so we searched for the girl’s relatives inside the country, but none were found. The police contacted her grandmother in the home country. She said she was ready to receive her. The DNA test was positive between mother and child.“’
The story began when the mother reached the UAE via Dubai international airport on a transit trip from Somalia to Bahrain and then to the London Heathrow Airport, using a fake passport. Officials at the airport suspected the girl as they noted the name was male. They also noticed that the girl’s head was shaven.
The mother confessed that the passport was fake and that she got it from her home country to travel to the UK to get political asylum.
