Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has applauded the Kenya Defence Forces for dealing with external threats and maintaining peace and security in the country.

He said KDF through peace and support operations, has made sure there is security despite the many challenges witnessed.

Duale was speaking on Friday during the opening of the annual Formation Commanders’ Conference at the Moran Centre in Karen.

“The Kenya Defence Forces has over the years successfully underwritten the security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation against external threats,”  he said.

“They have been the face in maintaining peace and security through peace support operations and other forms of defence diplomacy despite being an uneasy path.”

The event brought together key leaders from the KDF as they deliberated on defence and protection of the nation.

Duale said KDF has proved to be a reliable partner in delivering the critical projects with maximum efficiency and at a minimum cost.

He noted that KDF will be called upon to protect the public against the threat of terrorism whenever needed.

“The force must continue providing solutions to the government on the resources needed to keep the Force properly equipped and adequately responsive,” Duale said.

Hundreds of Kenyans over the years have been radicalized and recruited to join Al Shaabab while others have been robbed of their lives by the terrorists.

This has left many families desperate for information on the whereabouts of their loved ones as others are left in mourning.

Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan on Tuesday said Al shabab now controls 60 per cent of Mandera.

“I can confirm that more than 60 per cent of Mandera County is now partially owned by Al shaabab,” he said.

The CS on July 15 emphasized that the KDF and other security teams will deal with the terror-related activities to in a bid to protect Kenya’s territory.

He warned the militia, noting that they will not be allowed to thrive in terror activities on Kenyan land.

“Militia shall not find a safe heaven in Kenya once they are flushed out of Somalia. The KDF and other security teams remain vigilant and steadfast to degrade the terrorist- related activities,” Duale said.
