Britain welcomes Kenya to the UN Security Council

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott on Thursday congratulated Kenya for securing a seat at the United Nations Security Council.

Kenya won the UNSC non-permanent seat after garnering 129 votes in the second round against Djibouti.

Marriott said it is fantastic that the two countries will now work together as a force for good on the biggest international stage.

“I want to give my huge congratulations to Kenya on securing a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2021/22 session. As one of the Security Council’s Permanent Members, we’re excited to be working so closely with Kenya, a country whose values and objectives we share,” she said.

“Coming just six months after Prime Minister Johnson and President Kenyatta agreed the Strategic Partnership, it is fantastic that our two countries can work together as a force for good on the biggest international stage. Hongera!”.

In January, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Prime Minister Boris Johnson – agreed to elevate the states relationship to an even more ambitious Strategic Partnership. 

In the bilateral agreement,the two states, agreed to work together from 2020 to 2025 across five pillars – mutual prosperity,security and stability, sustainable development, climate change, and people to people– reflecting the key challenges and opportunities.
