The Ministry of Labor has issued a warning that some Ethiopian recruitment companies are still advertising the services of workers despite a ban being in place.
Hattab Al-Enizi, spokesman of the ministry, said that the Ethiopian government had stopped sending workers to all Arab countries at the end of October 2013. The ban is in place for six months, he said.
He warned individuals and companies not to have any dealings with Ethiopian companies offering the services of workers. The Ethiopian government had revoked the licenses of all recruitment companies.
Al-Enizi said the Ethiopian government is currently overhauling recruitment procedures with new rules and regulations.
He said the ministry is trying to sign bilateral recruitment agreements with several countries.
Meanwhile, Labor Minister Adel Fakeih and Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Employment, Promotion and Welfare Dilan Perera were expected to sign a labor agreement this week. This comes after Saudi Arabia recently signed agreements with India and Nepal.
