AMISOM Director of Political Affairs, Babatunde Taiwo, has been found guilty of a criminal offence by a Nairobi court

Nairobi (WDN)- The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Director of Political Affairs, Babatunde Taiwo, has been found guilty of a criminal offence by a court in Nairobi, WardheerNews has learned.

Babatunde Taiwo

On August 3rd 2016, Babatunde assaulted a female co-worker and subordinate, Ms. Premdeep Bahra, at the office of his employer, Sahan Africa, in Kitisuru, Nairobi. Batabtunde was subsequently fired from his job, but sued Sahan Africa for wrongful dismissal, demanding almost half a million US dollars in damages.

In his ruling of 22 November 2019, Judge Onesimus Makau dismissed Babatunde’s claims and found him guilty of “a criminal offence at the workplace”, further deciding that “the employer has proved that there existed a valid reason for summarily dismissing the claimant.” The verdict is especially damaging since the AU launched a High Level investigation of harassment against women in May 2018.

In a fraudulent attempt to clean his record Babatunde claims on his LinkedIn profile to have worked for the United Nations continuously since 2010, but our own investigations revealed that he was in fact a consultant periodically employed by Sahan Africa between 2013 and August 2016, when the assault took place.

Allegations of misconduct by AMISOM troops, especially women, during operations in Somalia make it most disturbing that a high level official found guilty of such a crime should be holding such an important post in Mogadishu.
