More than 500 convert to Islam in Dubai

DUBAI,  More than 500 people converted to Islam during the first quarter of 2015, according to statistics released by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, IACAD.

“Most of these Muslims learnt about Islam through friends, books, visiting Islamic centres, or because of being moved by the Adhan and the good treatment they received here in the UAE” said Yusra Al Gaood, head of Edification and Religious Guidance Department at IACAD.

The New Muslims Section organises Islamic information programmes and interfaith dialogue activities in public places such as shopping malls and community centres.

During the first quarter, the section conducted various activities at the Mohammed bin Rashid Islamic Culture Centre in Al Barsha and Zayed Bin Muhammad Family Gathering in Al Khawaneej 1st, which were attended by a good number of Muslims and non-Muslims. One lecture, entitled: “Duaa Tim”, held in the Zayed Bin Muhammad Family Gathering, was attended by more than 6,000 people.

The section also organised the annual campaign, “If You Knew Him, You Would Love Him”, which focuses on the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). It includes visits to hospitals, activities in malls, community centres, and other public sites.

The campaign has organised lectures in the Tamil language for non-Muslims in Al Baraha Hospital, and contests for non-Muslims in Reef Mall.

Meanwhile, a Chinese delegation recently visited the Mohammed bin Rashid Islamic Culture Centre in Al Barsha to discuss ways of future cooperation.
