Mogadishu (WDN) — Political maneuvering intensified in the capital after talks between Somalia’s Federal Government and the opposition-aligned Future Council ended without agreement on Tuesday.

In the wake of the inconclusive meeting, both sides have launched separate behind-the-scenes consultations aimed at breaking the deadlock and finding common ground on the contentious issues that continue to divide them.

As the political uncertainty deepens, the United States Embassy in Somalia issued a pointed statement underscoring the urgency of dialogue and compromise. The embassy stressed that constructive engagement among Somali leaders is critical to safeguarding national stability and strengthening state institutions.

“A unified political process,” the statement noted, “is essential to consolidating governance and countering terrorist threats.”

The United States also warned against the risks of prolonged political impasse, cautioning that failure to reach consensus could push the country toward renewed political and security instability at a particularly fragile moment.

Washington concluded by urging Somali leaders to prioritize national interests and reach a broad-based political agreement through negotiation and compromise.
