Nairobi- Somalia’s nominee to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Hon. Faisal Abdi Roble, paid a courtesy call on the UDA Secretary General and EALA Member, Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan, at the UDA Headquarters, Hustler Plaza, Nairobi.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of Somalia’s formal admission into the East African Community (EAC) on 24th November 2023, marking continuous expansion of the regional bloc.
Sen. Hassan contrited on the persistent bottlenecks that continue to stifle the full realization of EAC integration, despite the bloc’s immense potential. He observed that while significant progress has been made in policy harmonization and cross-border cooperation, implementation gaps, bureaucratic inertia, and protectionist tendencies among member states have slowed momentum.
Hon. Faisal underscored the need to transform political goodwill into practical frameworks that empower citizens, promote free movement, and enhance collective prosperity.
The Secretary General emphasized the importance of utilizing regional mechanisms to address shared security concerns and strengthen intra-EAC trade, noting that a cohesive approach to peace and stability is vital for sustained economic growth and investor confidence.
To this end, they called for renewed commitment to eliminating non-tariff barriers, expanding infrastructure interconnectivity, and fostering a culture of trust and mutual accountability—key pillars that will move the EAC from perpetual idealistic anchorages to realistic pigments in its pursuit of a unified and prosperous federation.
