Somalia on Edge: Jubaland President Leaves Amid Stalled Negotiations

Mogadishu (WDN)— Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Madoobe” has returned to Kismayo after two weeks in Mogadishu, where high-level talks between the opposition and the Federal Government ended in failure.

Sources in both the Federal Parliament and Kismayo-based officials confirmed that President Ahmed Mohamed Islam and his delegation left the capital without achieving any breakthrough in negotiations.

During his stay in Mogadishu, President Madoobe had met with opposition MPs and political figures to discuss Somalia’s increasingly fraught political landscape. Most of these meetings focused on the stalled dialogue and the broader governance crisis gripping the country.

In a parallel development, Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is also expected to return to Garowe in the Nugaal region, following his two-week participation in various government and political meetings in Mogadishu. On the other hand, Said Deni, President of the Puntland Administration, is also rumored to be staying in Mogadishu for several more days, as he is a presidential aspirant and seeks to hold political discussions in the city during this time with politicians and prominent local figures from Mogadishu.

As of now, the Somali presidency has not commented on the statement issued by the Somali Future Council, leaving observers concerned about the widening political deadlock and the prospects for a meaningful compromise.

Analysts warn that the failure of these talks underscores the deepening rift between Somalia’s federal government and its federal member states, signaling potential instability ahead of upcoming electoral and governance processes.
