Bosaso (WDN) – Shock and grief swept through the port city of Bosaso on Tuesday morning after former Puntland lawmaker and former deputy minister Yusuf Bootaan Ciise was brutally killed in what authorities describe as a tragic domestic incident.

According to initial reports, the killing was allegedly carried out by the deceased’s son, Mohamed Yusuf Bootaan, who relatives and local sources say had been struggling with severe mental health problems.
Witnesses said the suspect repeatedly stabbed his father with a knife inside their residence in the Al-Aqsa Mosque neighborhood of Bosaso, inflicting fatal injuries in a horrifying attack that has stunned residents across the city.
Security forces quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect without resistance. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The death of Yusuf Bootaan Ciise has triggered widespread sorrow in Puntland political circles, where he was known as a veteran public figure who previously served both as a member of parliament and deputy minister in the Puntland administration.
The incident has also reignited growing public concern over the lack of mental health services and support systems in Somalia, where families are often left to cope alone with severe psychological illnesses amid limited access to treatment and care.
