Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan begins official visit to Ethiopia

Ahram online- Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud arrived in Ethiopia on Wednesday for an official visit, according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, Prince Faisal met Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa, where they discussed developments in the Horn of Africa and broader regional issues, as well as efforts to promote peace and stability.

In remarks posted on social media, Abiy described the talks as “wide-ranging and productive,” saying they focused on strengthening longstanding ties, expanding cooperation in strategic sectors, and enhancing coordination on regional and global issues.

The visit follows meetings earlier this month in Riyadh, where Prince Faisal hosted Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos for talks on bilateral cooperation.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that discussions in Addis Ababa were expected to address regional developments and ways to advance peace and security, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.

Saudi-Ethiopian relations have drawn increasing diplomatic attention, with both sides emphasizing the importance of continuous political coordination on regional and international issues, and deepening cooperation in politics, economics, and security to serve the interests of both countries and their peoples.

The meetings in Addis Ababa are also seen against the backdrop of ongoing efforts to reinforce stability in the wider Horn of Africa region, which remains central to Gulf and African diplomatic engagements.
