Cawsane, Sanag Region (WDN) — Two young sisters were killed and their father injured in a tragic road accident today along the newly constructed road linking Eldaahir and Erigavo, in the Cawsane area of Sanaag.

The victims, Bushro Mohamed Dheeg and Aamino Mohamed Dheeg, were sisters who died in the crash involving a Probox vehicle. Their father, Mohamed Dheeg, was also injured and is receiving medical attention.

The tragedy adds to growing concerns over the increasing number of road traffic accidents reported across Puntland in recent months. Many of the crashes have reportedly been attributed to inexperienced drivers, poor infrastructure, lack of regulations raising renewed questions about driver training, enforcement of traffic regulations and road safety awareness.

The expanding road network has improved connectivity between communities, but the rise in traffic has also brought greater risks where safety measures and driver discipline have failed to keep pace.

For the families involved, however, the statistics offer little comfort. Two young lives have been lost, a father has been injured, and another family has been left to mourn a tragedy that could perhaps have been prevented.
