Nairobi, Kenya (WDN)— In a significant political development, the Presidents of Jubbaland Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madoobe) and Puntland Said Abdullahi Deni, together with leaders of the Salvation Forum- former Prime Ministers Saacid Shirdoon and Hassan Ali Khayre, and Member of Parliament Abdirahman Abdishakur, convened today in Nairobi to deliberate on Somalia’s pressing challenges and chart a vision for the country’s future.
The meeting, described by participants as “constructive and forward-looking,” culminated in a joint call for the creation of a Future Council for Somalia. The proposed body would bring Puntland, Jubaland and the Salvation Forum to coordinate national dialogue and provide a roadmap for political stability, security, and sustainable economic growth.
According to a press statement released after the gathering, discussions centered on the fragile political and security situation in Somalia, including the urgent need for inclusive governance, stronger institutions, and effective strategies to counter extremist threats and unified stand on Villa Somalia’s unilateralism. Leaders emphasized that only through a unified and participatory political process can Somalia transition from cycles of crisis to long-term peace and prosperity.
The proposed Somali Future Council, aimed at building consensus on key national priorities. “Somalia’s future cannot be secured through fragmented approaches,” the statement declared, stressing that lasting stability demands a collective vision, stronger accountability, and genuine collaboration across all levels of leadership.
The meeting could mark an important step toward breaking the political deadlock that has often plagued federal-state relations, and potentially open space for a more inclusive national dialogue as Somalia prepares for future transitions in governance.
