Puntland Denies Cutting Salaries for SSC-Khatumo Soldiers, Calls Circulated Letter a Forgery

Garowe (WDN)-The Puntland Ministry of Security has categorically denied the authenticity of a letter circulating on social media which claimed that the government had halted salary payments for soldiers stationed in SSC-Khatumo defense bases, including the key location of Tukaraq.

In an official press release issued today, the Ministry declared the document a forgery, asserting that it did not originate from their office.

“The Puntland Ministry of Security hereby certifies that the reference letter made to XW/MOS/DDR/PL/059 — dated April 14, 2025 — is forged, null and void. It did not come from the office of the Puntland Minister of Security,” the statement read.

The letter in question falsely claimed that the Puntland government had ordered an end to salaries for troops based in Tukaraq and SSC-Khatumo districts — a move that could have severely impacted morale and stability in the recently liberated territories.

To counter the growing spread of misinformation, the Ministry issued a clear directive:

“All security agencies of the Puntland state are ordered to take strict action against anyone who fabricates and circulates false information about Puntland government institutions.”

The Ministry’s swift response is aimed at calming concerns within both the military and the public, especially as Puntland continues to shoulder a critical security role in northern Somalia — including its strong support for SSC-Khatumo forces who have reclaimed significant territory in recent months.

This episode comes amid rising information warfare, where fake letters and fabricated news are increasingly used as tools to undermine public trust and sow confusion.

Puntland’s government, known for its relatively stable institutions and strong local governance, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to its soldiers and its constitutional responsibilities. The Ministry has vowed to pursue legal action against those found responsible for the forgery, sending a strong message that state institutions will not be undermined through deception.
