Bossaso (WDN) Puntland’s Defense Forces have declared the successful completion of the third phase of Operation Calmiskaad, following the full recapture of Miiraale, the last known ISIS command center in the region.
In a statement released this morning, the Information Office for Operation Calmiskaad confirmed that Puntland troops, backed by air support, overran the Miiraale Valley outpost, where remaining ISIS militants had taken refuge after months of pursuit.
“Our brave forces have captured the final stronghold of Daesh in the Miiraale Valley. The terrorists’ command center and strategic water wells are now under full control,” the statement read. “This marks a historic moment in our mission. Phase Three of Operation Calmiskaad has concluded with total success.”
The operation, described as a coordinated air and ground assault, was launched at dawn, catching the militants by surprise. Witnesses reported the sound of helicopter gunships echoing through the valley as troops swept through the rugged terrain.
“This victory is not just military—it’s symbolic,” said one senior commander on the ground. “We’ve broken the back of ISIS in this region. They have nowhere left to run.”
Fleeing fighters reportedly scattered toward Togga Baalade, specifically the hideouts of Sadow and Yucurun, areas previously used by ISIS commanders to regroup. Intelligence teams are now pursuing those who escaped the initial assault.
“The message is clear,” a Puntland defense spokesperson added. “There is no safe haven for terrorists in Puntland. We will find you. We will dismantle your networks. And we will restore peace to every inch of our land.”
Operation Calmiskaad has been widely seen as a turning point in Puntland’s long-standing fight against terrorism. With the collapse of the Miiraale command center, Puntland officials say the region is entering a new era of security and stability.
