Joint Communiqué Issued Following Meetings Between Presidents Said Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe)

Garowe, (WDN)-The Presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland Federal Member States, Said Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Islam, concluded a series of high-level consultations held in Garowe over recent days. The discussions culminated in the issuance of a joint communiqué outlining ten key resolutions.

Among the principal outcomes, both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to advancing the establishment of a comprehensive, inclusive, and functioning federal governance system in Somalia. They underscored the importance of federalism as enshrined in the Provisional Constitution and pledged to jointly pursue efforts aimed at restoring constitutional order and national unity.

The communiqué also commended the ongoing counter-terrorism operations carried out by the security forces of both Puntland and Jubbaland against Al-Shabaab and ISIS. Furthermore, the leaders expressed their appreciation and support for the Somali National Armed Forces’ efforts in combating Al-Shabaab in various regions of the country.

Critically, the two presidents categorically rejected the recent unilateral amendments to sections of the Provisional Constitution made by the Federal Government of Somalia. They emphasized that such alterations lack legitimacy, as they were conducted outside the framework of national consensus and constitutional procedures.
