Explosion Rocks Mogadishu’s Bakara Market

Mogadishu (WDN)A powerful explosion struck Mogadishu’s Bakara Market on Wednesday, leaving at least three people injured, including two security officers and a civilian woman.

According to initial reports, the blast occurred near the Cawska Mosque inside the market, one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs. Security sources indicate the explosive device had been concealed in a bag and placed near a location where members of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) were conducting routine operations.

Witnesses reported panic and chaos in the aftermath of the explosion, as emergency responders rushed to the scene to evacuate the wounded.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes amid a relative lull in bombings across Mogadishu. While such incidents have become increasingly rare, sporadic attacks continue to disrupt the fragile security environment. In April, a deadly bombing targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Although the president escaped unharmed, several civilians were killed.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the Bakara Market explosion as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts across the capital.
