GAROWE (WDN) — Garowe is preparing to welcome an extraordinary gathering of Somalia’s political, academic and civil society voices, as distinguished delegates converge on the Puntland capital for a major national forum on the country’s future.

The city welcomed a stream of prominent guests yesterday ahead of the two-day conference, organized by the Puntland Development Research Center (PDRC), which opens on September 21 under the theme “Fragility, State-Building and Peacebuilding in Somalia.”

The arrival of respected Somali intellectuals and political figures has generated a palpable sense of anticipation across Garowe, with the conference expected to provide a rare platform for open discussion about the challenges confronting Somalia and the difficult task of building durable institutions and lasting peace.

Among the prominent figures arriving in Garowe were Dr. Abdirahman Abdullahi Baadiyow, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Ali Nur and Halima Ismail Ibrahim, known as Halima Yarey.

More delegates are expected to arrive as the capital prepares for the formal opening of the conference.
