Garowe (WDN)– A flurry of reports published by Caasimada Online and other sites claim that Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is convening a high-level political conference in Garowe, dubbed “the salvation of Somalia.” The report suggests that the meeting will host federal parliamentarians from both houses, leaders from other Federal Member States—including Jubaland—and opposition figures aligned against Villa Somalia.
However, after contacting relevant authorities in Puntland, WardheerNews can confirm that these claims are completely unfounded and misleading.
There are currently no plans to initiate a separate political conference in Garowe under the theme or premise described by Caasimada Online. Puntland sources describe the article as “politically motivated disinformation” aimed at creating the illusion of a divided and destabilized federal system at a time when the National Consultative Council (NCC) has lost credibility due to Villa Somalia’s unilateralism.
“This is not the first time Caasimada Online has disseminated fabricated claims. Just last week, the same outlet inaccurately reported that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was traveling to Bosaso to meet with President Deni—another event that never took place” a local journalist told WardheerNews.
In a political climate where trust in state-aligned media like Radio Muqdisho has plummeted, observers are increasingly questioning whether many Online news portal has become an unofficial mouthpiece for the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS). As one Puntland official put it, “Caasimada seems more committed to shaping Villa Somalia’s narrative than to journalism.”
