UAE Airstrikes Target Daesh Militants in Puntland’s Calmiskaad Mountains

Bosaso (WDN) – Details have emerged following two airstrikes conducted last night in the Miraale valley, nestled within the rugged Calmiskaad mountain range of Bari region. The strikes reportedly targeted fighters affiliated with the Islamic State-affiliated Daesh group.

According to local sources, the militants had emerged from their mountain hideouts under the cover of darkness, attempting to regroup and mobilize — a tactic believed to be driven by the heightened risk of daytime surveillance and airstrikes. Their movements, however, were swiftly intercepted by two precision airstrikes.

In a statement issued this morning, the Puntland regional government confirmed that the United Arab Emirates carried out the operation. The statement noted that the UAE, described as a “strategic partner” of Puntland, executed the strikes which resulted in the killing of several Daesh operatives.

“These airstrikes were conducted by the United Arab Emirates, a key partner in Puntland’s fight against terrorism,” the statement read.

The Calmiskaad mountains have long served as a hideout for militant factions seeking refuge in the difficult terrain, making counterterrorism operations in the area particularly complex.
