Tourism Director Gunned Down in Mogadishu

MUQDISHO (WDN) — In a brazen act of violence, armed assailants shot and killed a government official in the heart of Mogadishu’s Dayniile district on Saturday night.

The victim, Abdalla Sheikh Ibrahim Mahmoud Jiisow, who served as the Director of Tourism for Dayniile District, was ambushed and shot multiple times in the Ali Boy neighborhood. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Witnesses say the killers didn’t flee immediately—they stripped Jiisow of his pistol and mobile phone before vanishing into the night, fueling suspicions that the assassination was meticulously planned.

“This wasn’t random,” one local resident said. “They knew who he was and came for him.”

This killing comes at a time when Mogadishu is already on edge due to a string of targeted attacks against government officials and civil servants. Jiisow’s death marks yet another grim chapter in the city’s struggle with insecurity, and residents are left reeling, questioning how such a high-profile figure could be executed so easily.

Security forces arrived at the scene moments later, but despite efforts to track down the perpetrators, the gunmen remain at large. The silence from the authorities and the lack of arrests have only deepened public alarm.

The motive behind the killing remains unknown, but the sheer boldness of the attack has rattled the district and reignited calls for urgent security reform.
