MOGADISHU (WDN) — After signs of deep divisions initially surfaced on Friday, members of the Somali Future Council concluded their follow-up meeting on Saturday with a unified and consolidated agreement on key political issues.

The earlier session, held in Mogadishu, had raised concerns after reports indicated significant internal disagreements within the opposition bloc. Observers noted visible tension during Friday’s discussions, sparking fears that the Council could fail to reach a common position at a critical political moment.

However, Saturday’s deliberations resulted in consensus around a defined agenda, signaling a shift from uncertainty to coordination.

According to sources familiar with the outcome, the Council agreed on the following core positions:

1) The Provisional Constitution remains the only legitimate constitution, and any amendments made outside an agreed national framework are considered null and void.

2) Presidents of Federal Member States (FMS) whose mandates have expired should renew their legitimacy through indirect elections, ensuring continuity while maintaining constitutional order.

3) The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) must ensure that elections are held on time and based on broad political consensus, in order to safeguard stability and prevent further institutional disputes.

The agreement is being viewed as a significant development, particularly given the fragile political climate and the proximity of constitutional and electoral timelines.
