Kismayo (WDN)- In a major military victory, Somali National Army Commando units stationed in Jubaland have launched a decisive offensive against Al-Shabaab militants entrenched in the region’s rural areas. The most intense and pivotal fighting occurred in the Barjaale area, within Afmadow District, where government forces successfully overran Al-Shabaab strongholds.

According to military officials leading the operation, a total of 120 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in coordinated assaults across three regions of Jubaland. The forces also apprehended several militants, including individuals identified as known leaders within the extremist group.

In a show of strength and transparency, the Somali Commandos displayed a significant cache of weapons confiscated from the defeated militants. Footage released to the media showed the dead, destroyed enemy defenses, and liberated territory — underscoring the scale and impact of the operation.

The military confirmed that large swathes of territory previously under Al-Shabaab control are now firmly in the hands of the Somali National Army. The operation remains ongoing, with troops pursuing fleeing militants to prevent regrouping or counterattacks.

This latest success marks a significant step forward in the ongoing national campaign to rid Somalia of Al-Shabaab and restore lasting peace and stability.
