Senior Al-Shabaab Figure Killed in Targeted Somali Security Operation

MOGADISHU (WDN) — The Somali government has confirmed the death of a senior Al-Shabaab commander, accused of masterminding a series of deadly attacks targeting civilians in Mogadishu and surrounding regions.

In an official statement released on Monday, the government announced that Cabaas Maxamed Hool, a key operative responsible for orchestrating assassinations and attacks across Banadir and the Shabelle regions, died from injuries sustained during a recent planned operation carried out by Somali security forces.

Authorities said Hool had been a central figure in Al-Shabaab’s network since 2007, with direct involvement in “brutal and indiscriminate attacks” on civilians in the capital. His role included planning and executing high-profile plots aimed at destabilizing Mogadishu through targeted killings and terror campaigns.

The statement noted that the militant leader was critically wounded during a security operation and later succumbed to his injuries, marking what officials called a “major blow” to the extremist group’s operational capabilities in southern Somalia.

“This was a calculated and strategic mission by our forces,” the government said. “Eliminating one of the masterminds of Al-Shabaab’s terror activities sends a clear message that there will be no safe haven for those who harm the Somali people.”

Security experts view the death of Cabaas Hool as a significant, though symbolic, victory in Somalia’s long-running counterterrorism campaign. Al-Shabaab has yet to comment publicly on the development.
