Bosaso (WDN) A fierce clash erupted today between Puntland Defense Forces and members of the ISIS (Daacish) militia in the Calmiskaad mountains of Bari region, where militants are reportedly trapped in caves.
The Puntland military launched a well-planned operation this morning, leading to the discovery and attack of hiding spots used by ISIL fighters in the Isha-Tabakar area, located at the entrance to the Miiraale valley.
According to reports, at least six ISIL militants, all foreign nationals, have been killed in the ongoing fighting. Several Puntland soldiers were also injured during the operation.
The media office overseeing the Puntland military’s operations in the Calmiskaad mountains confirmed the operation, stating that forces are targeting the Isha-Tabakar area of Miiraale. However, no additional details have been provided regarding the ongoing engagement.
“The forces are currently conducting operations near the Miiraale valley, with a focus on the Isha-Tabakar area,” the Puntland military media office said in a statement.
This operation is part of Puntland’s continued efforts to combat the growing threat of terrorism and maintain security in the region.
