Bossaso (WDN) — The Puntland Government has announced a successful military operation carried out today in the Miraale Valley, located in the rugged Almiskad mountain range, as part of its ongoing campaign to dismantle terrorist networks entrenched in the region.
In a statement released by the Media Office of the Puntland Defense Forces, the government confirmed that the offensive—dubbed Operation Miraale—marks the completion of the third phase of the broader military campaign known as Operation Aliskaad.
The early morning operation reportedly led to the defeat and dispersal of ISIS-affiliated militants, who had been hiding in cave systems within the Miraale Valley. According to the statement, Puntland security forces conducted a targeted sweep of the area, neutralizing members of the terror group and clearing their fortified hideouts.
“The army, which conducted an operation today in the area of the Miraale Valley well, killed the terrorists who were hiding in Miraale, pulling out the dead from the caves. Completion of Phase 3 of Operation Aliskaad,” read the statement from the Media Office.
This latest offensive is being described by Puntland officials as a “historic victory” in the fight against extremism in northeastern Somalia. The rugged terrain of the Almiskad Mountains has long been used as a strategic sanctuary by terror groups, particularly Daesh (ISIS), which has maintained a limited but dangerous presence in Puntland.
Security experts say this operation represents a turning point in Puntland’s campaign against terrorism, demonstrating both enhanced military capability and resolve.
More details are expected to follow as the operation enters its final cleanup and assessment stages.
