Mogadishu (WDN) – Questions are mounting over the arrest and detention of several young people from Dayniile District following clashes between residents and police forces during a violent confrontation in the Warlalis area, where locals reportedly resisted eviction efforts.
The arrests come after tensions erupted in Dayniile following clashes between security forces and residents who reportedly opposed forced evictions in their neighborhood. Many of the youths, according to local accounts, were among those resisting displacement from their homes.
According to a statement and images circulated on the official Facebook page of the Banadir Regional Police Command, several youths from the area were arrested and transferred to custody on allegations linked to “organizing acts of violence against public order and security in the capital.”
Those detained include three young men and one woman: Cabdihakim Muxyadiin Sheekh Cali, Muscab Mire Indhayare, Cabdulxamiid Cabdikariin Xuseen, and Xamdi Cabdi Caddow. Police say the individuals are under investigation for alleged involvement in mobilizing unrest during the clashes.
The police command further stated that preliminary investigations are underway and that the suspects will be handed over to judicial authorities once the process is complete. However, the arrests have triggered growing public concern, with many questioning why political representatives, MPs, or ministers have not intervened on behalf of the detained youths.
Despite the seriousness of the accusations, no Member of Parliament or government official from the Mursade community has publicly intervened or demanded accountability regarding the detainees. Observers note that all those arrested are from the same area where the confrontations took place, raising concerns about collective punishment and due process.
So far, there has been no independent confirmation of the specific charges beyond the police statement, and no formal court proceedings have yet been announced.
The situation has intensified scrutiny over the handling of arrests linked to eviction-related protests in Mogadishu, as tensions continue to rise between residents and security forces in several districts of the capital.
