Mortar Shells Hit Xalane Compound and Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (WDN) – In the early hours of this Monday morning, on April 28, 2025, multiple mortar shells struck the Xalane compound and Aden Adde International Airport, sparking fear and chaos among civilians and security personnel.

Several rounds reportedly landed within and around the Xalane security complex, while others fell into nearby residential areas. Residents near the compound reported hearing heavy explosions that shook neighborhoods and sent civilians fleeing for safety.

Emergency sirens were activated inside Xalane following the attack, signaling a possible ongoing threat. No casualties or material damages have been officially confirmed yet.

The militant group Al-Shabaab is suspected to be behind the attack. The group has recently intensified its mortar campaigns in Mogadishu, frequently targeting strategic government sites, including the Presidential Palace, Xalane compound, and Aden Adde Airport.
