Minister Hassan Eelaay Delivers a Measured speech Following the Capture of Baidoa

Baidoa (WDN) – Somalia’s Federal Minister of Livestock, Hassan Eelaay, who has played a key role in the federal forces’ capture of Baidoa, has delivered a measured and widely noted address in the city today., following recent political developments and a shift in administrative control in the city.

Speaking in the Maay dialect, Minister Eelaay addressed both the Somali National Army and Southwest State security forces in the aftermath of reports that President Abdiaziz Laftagareen had been removed from authority and control of Baidoa had changed hands.

In his remarks, the minister emphasized the importance of maintaining stability during the transition, urging all security forces to prioritize the protection of civilians and uphold public order. He warned strongly against any acts of revenge or retaliation, stressing that such actions could further destabilize the situation.

Eelaay called on the forces to exercise discipline and restraint, reminding them of their responsibility to safeguard all citizens regardless of political or clan affiliation. He underscored that Somalia belongs to all its people and cautioned against the targeting or marginalization of any group.

His message comes at a sensitive moment for Baidoa, as tensions remain high and the need for calm and coordinated security measures becomes increasingly critical.

On the other hand, the Federal Government of Somalia has officially released General Mahad “Shub,” the former Commander of the Custodial Corps, who was recently removed from his post and placed under house arrest in Mogadishu.

Gen. Shub is expected to travel to Nairobi today alongside several Members of Parliament from Southwest State. They are set to join former Southwest State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen, who was recently overthrown by authorities in Mogadishu and is now in Nairobi.

Sources indicate that the government has shifted its position, signaling that it will no longer target figures associated with Southwest State politics following the removal of Laftagareen from power.

Meanwhile, Laftagareen is expected to convene a meeting in Nairobi with his political allies, including his relative Gen. Shub and aligned federal lawmakers. The talks are likely to focus on the recent political upheaval in Southwest State and to map out their next course of action.
