Las Anod (WDN) – In a move hailed as both symbolic and substantive, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has officially invited the leader of the SSC-Khatumo Administration, Abdikadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye), to participate in the upcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting in Mogadishu.
The invitation was formally announced by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who is currently on a visit to Las Anod. Speaking to local media, Prime Minister Hamza confirmed that President Firdhiye has accepted the invitation and is expected to attend the high-level meeting, which brings together regional and federal leaders to deliberate on Somalia’s political future.
Although Somalia’s political elite widely believe that the upcoming NCC meeting is poised to falter due to the expected absence of two key Federal Member States—Puntland and Jubaland—as well as major opposition figures, the formal inclusion of SSC-Khatumo has been hailed as a milestone. It marks a symbolic yet substantial breakthrough in broadening political representation and reaffirming the voices of historically marginalized regions in Somalia’s national dialogue.
Prime Minister Hamza emphasized the importance of SSC-Khatumo’s participation, stating that President Firdhiye will have the opportunity to present the perspectives and aspirations of the people he represents. “This is a significant step toward national unity,” said Hamza. “SSC-Khatumo is entering a new phase of political development, and its people deserve both recognition and support.”
He added that the Federal Government of Somalia remains committed to assisting SSC-Khatumo in strengthening its administrative structures. He noted that the government has begun directly supporting the construction of SSC-Khatumo’s administrative centers, several of which are currently under development in Las Anod.
President Firdhiye’s participation signals a diplomatic milestone, formally integrating SSC-Khatumo into Somalia’s national political process. As the country grapples with persistent fragmentation and ongoing disputes among its federal units, this inclusion is seen as a step toward a more inclusive, representative, and unified Somalia.
